Custom Steel Doors Operations
Our custom steel doors are designed to combine strength, precision craftsmanship, and modern aesthetics. Ideal for residential and commercial projects, they deliver durability, security, and architectural impact.
Why Specify a HERRERO Steel Door
Every HERRERO door is fabricated in our own shop in Anaheim, California. We are not a reseller assembling imported components: we cut, weld, grind, galvanize and finish each unit to the dimensions on your drawings.
Steel is specified for architectural openings because of what it does not do. It does not warp — wood fibers absorb and release moisture across temperature and humidity cycles until joints fail, while steel holds its dimensions. It does not rot, because it is not biological material. And it does not crack or splinter under the impacts that damage fiberglass.
With correct specification, installation and maintenance, a custom steel door can exceed 50 years of service life. That is what the material and the manufacturing process make possible — a realistic expectation, not a warranty term. Read what determines a steel door’s lifespan.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing, Standard on Every Unit
After fabrication, each assembly is immersed in molten zinc at roughly 840°F. The zinc reacts metallurgically with the steel and forms zinc-iron alloy layers bonded at the atomic level — a transformation of the steel surface, not a coating laid on top of it. It cannot be scratched off or chipped away without removing the steel itself.
Most manufacturers offer galvanizing as an upgrade. We apply it as standard on every unit we build, which is the single most important reason a HERRERO door survives decades in coastal and high-humidity environments. How hot-dip galvanizing works.
Finishes
Over the galvanized substrate we apply powder coat finishes in the full RAL palette, plus custom colors and textures matched to your specification. See finish and color options. For projects near the Pacific, the finish system and the galvanizing work together — see our guidance for coastal California projects.
Glass and Energy Performance
Doors are glazed to the performance your project requires: low-E, tempered, laminated, obscure and insulated units. Review glass options.
For California projects, Title 24 compliance drives the glazing package, and our thermally broken ECO-SKY line is available where the envelope calculation requires it. We supply NFRC ratings and labels for permit submittal.
Product Lines
- SLIM LINE — our narrowest sightlines, for projects where the frame should disappear.
- PURE — minimalist profiles for contemporary architecture.
- ECO-SKY — thermally broken, for demanding energy performance.
What We Need to Quote Your Project
An accurate estimate requires: rough opening dimensions for each unit; wall assembly type (wood frame, steel frame, masonry or concrete); glass performance requirements (standard, Title 24, WUI zone or coastal); desired finish color and type; hardware preferences; and any special conditions such as curved openings, non-standard configurations or high-elevation installations.
For projects under $20,000 we typically respond within 5–7 business days. Projects between $20,000 and $100,000 take 7–10 business days. See the full ordering timeline, deposits and approval process.
Specifying for California Conditions
Three conditions shape most California specifications, and each one changes the door you should be ordering:
- Title 24 energy compliance — determines glazing, and whether a thermal break is required.
- WUI wildfire zones — governs assemblies in fire-prone areas.
- Coastal salt air — drives the corrosion protection and finish system.
We work directly with architects, general contractors and developers across all California climate zones. See our resources for architects and designers.
