Thermally Broken Steel Windows and Doors — ECO-SKY Line by Herrero
Herrero’s ECO-SKY line is our thermally broken steel window and door system — engineered to deliver the narrow sightlines and architectural character of traditional steel with dramatically improved energy performance. Designed and fabricated in Anaheim, California, for residential and commercial projects across the USA.
What Is a Thermally Broken Steel Window?
A thermally broken steel window incorporates a continuous non-conductive barrier — the thermal break — within the steel profile. This barrier interrupts the steel-to-steel heat path between the interior and exterior faces of the frame, preventing heat transfer that would otherwise compromise the building envelope.
In a solid steel window without a thermal break, the steel frame acts as a direct conductor between inside and outside. In California’s hot inland climate zones this means solar heat gain through the frame itself. The thermal break eliminates this problem while maintaining the visual profile and structural performance of steel.
ECO-SKY Performance Features
- Integrated thermal break — continuous non-conductive polyamide barrier within the steel profile
- Title 24 compliant — meets California energy code fenestration requirements across all climate zones
- Low-E glass standard — insulated low-E glass units optimized for California solar conditions
- Condensation resistance — thermal break eliminates cold frame surfaces
- Narrow sightlines maintained — thermal break technology does not compromise the slim profile character
- Hot-dip galvanizing available — for coastal California projects requiring maximum corrosion resistance
When to Specify Thermally Broken vs Solid Steel
Specify ECO-SKY (thermally broken) when:
- The project is in a California climate zone with strict Title 24 compliance requirements
- Interior condensation on window frames is a concern
- The project requires LEED certification or other green building ratings
- Long-term energy performance is a priority
Specify SLIM-LINE or PURE LINE (solid steel) when:
- Aesthetic impact and minimum sightlines are the primary criterion
- Historical reproduction accuracy is required
- The project is in a mild California climate zone
