The Case for a Single Hung Steel Window
In a single hung window the lower sash slides vertically and the upper sash stays fixed. Nothing projects into the room and nothing projects outside — the whole operation happens within the thickness of the wall.
That is why single hungs are still specified on facades that sit close to a property line, over a walkway or terrace, or anywhere a swinging sash would collide with something. It is also the proportion most people read as traditional: a tall opening divided horizontally, which sits correctly on heritage and period architecture where a casement would look wrong.
Traditional Proportion, Current Performance
The reason to build one in steel rather than replicate an old timber unit is that you keep the proportion without inheriting its problems. Steel does not warp, swell or rot, so the sash does not stick in humid months and rattle in dry ones.
And it holds a slimmer profile than the original: steel carries roughly three times the tensile strength of aluminum and far more than wood, so the meeting rail and stiles can be finer than the window they replace. See the comparison.

Glass, Thermal and Finish
Period-correct proportions do not require period-level performance. Review glass options; where Title 24 requires it, specify the thermally broken ECO-SKY line. NFRC ratings and labels supplied for permit submittal.
Every unit is hot-dip galvanized as standard and powder coated in the full RAL palette, so a traditional profile can be finished in a historically accurate color or a deliberately modern one. See finish options.
