Custom steel doors represent a significant investment. Understanding exactly what your warranty covers — and what it doesn’t — helps you maintain the product correctly, respond quickly to any issues, and make informed decisions if a warranty claim ever becomes necessary. This guide walks through the HERRERO Limited Warranty in plain language.

Four Separate Warranty Periods

The HERRERO warranty is not a single blanket guarantee — it’s four distinct warranties covering different components with different durations.

  • 10 years — Structural frame: Manufacturing defects in the iron door and window sash structure and frames. This is the foundation warranty and covers the longest period because structural steel, properly fabricated and galvanized, is the most durable component of the assembly.
  • 3 years — Factory finish (non-coastal): The applied powder coat or paint finish against defects including cracking, peeling, blistering, flaking, chalking, and color change in excess of 3 “E” units per ASTM 2244. Coastal installations are warranted for 1 year due to accelerated environmental exposure.
  • 3 years — Insulated glass unit seals: Against seal failure and fogging of the insulated glass units. The warranty includes a tiered coverage schedule: full coverage (glass and labor) in year 1, glass only in year 2, and coordination assistance only in year 3.
  • 1 year — Hardware: Against workmanship and manufacturing defects in door hardware. Note that lockset hardware is separately covered by the lockset manufacturer — HERRERO’s hardware warranty does not include locksets.

What the Structural Warranty Covers

The 10-year structural warranty begins on the date of product delivery and covers manufacturing defects in the frame and sash structure. At HERRERO’s sole discretion, covered warranty claims will be resolved by repair or replacement of the defective goods.

All products are custom handmade and contain slight variations in form, functionality, and finish — these are not manufacturing defects but inherent characteristics of artisanal steel fabrication. Natural variations in material color and texture fall within reasonable industry tolerances and are not covered warranty claims.

What the Warranty Does NOT Cover

The warranty exclusions are where most misunderstandings occur. The following are explicitly not covered:

  • Normal wear and tear from product usage or age, including weatherstrip wear
  • Normal finish fading or discoloration from age or sunlight exposure
  • Improper storage, handling, installation, finishing, use, modification, or maintenance
  • Damage caused by failure to complete all finishing within 30 days of installation
  • Products stored more than 30 days without proper finish applied
  • Damage from ammonia-based cleaners, inappropriate solvents, or abrasive cleaning
  • Structural settlement, building movement, or vibration
  • Warping less than 1/4 inch (deferred for 12 months — steel takes time to acclimate to local humidity)
  • Damage from high interior humidity, condensation, frost, or mold
  • Products in high-moisture environments (pools, hot tubs, greenhouses) not ordered for those conditions
  • Glass breakage (breakage is not a manufacturing defect)
  • Untreated oxidation — if rust appears and is not addressed, corrosion expands and nullifies warranty
  • Hardware finishes and decorative metal accents
  • Products not paid for in full
  • Damage caused by improper repair attempts

Installation and the Warranty

This is critical: installation must be performed by a licensed and qualified contractor, following HERRERO’s approved CAD drawings, specifications, and installation instructions. If installation is determined to be faulty in workmanship resulting in damage to the product, all related warranties may be rendered null and void. HERRERO reserves the right to inspect all window and door installations done by third parties upon completion.

All windows and doors are inspected prior to delivery and signed off at time of delivery. If you accept delivery without noting damage or defects on the Bill of Lading, the products are considered accepted in good condition. Report any delivery damage in writing within 48 hours of receipt.

Maintenance and the Warranty

The warranty has a maintenance requirement: failure to comply with required periodic maintenance nullifies the warranty. This means cleaning, hinge lubrication, finish maintenance, and prompt repair of any finish damage are not optional activities — they are conditions of warranty coverage. For coastal installations, quarterly maintenance is explicitly required. For standard installations, annual maintenance is the minimum.

How to File a Warranty Claim

If you believe a product issue is covered under warranty, you must submit a written claim before beginning any repair work. Claims submitted after unauthorized repair attempts may not be covered. Include your name and installation address, a description of the product and purchase date, a copy of your invoice, the HERRERO serial number (located on the insulating glass spacer), a description of the defect with photographs, and a summary of any steps you’ve taken to address the issue.

Submit claims to: Customer Services, Viroks Inc., 1505 N State College Blvd, Anaheim, CA 92806. Phone: 714-776-5555. Email: doors@herrerodoors.com. HERRERO has the right to conduct a field inspection (which may carry a fee) before processing any warranty claim. Notice of defect must be provided within 1 year after the defect is discovered or should have been discovered.

Limitation of Liability

HERRERO’s maximum liability under the warranty shall not exceed the price paid for the product. The warranty does not cover labor costs for installation, removal, or reinstallation, or any consequential damages including property damage, lost profits, or business interruption. The exclusive remedies available are repair of the product, replacement of the product, or refund of the original purchase price.
